5 New Fashion Collaborations to Watch Out For

By Sayo Olukoga

Collaboration is in the air, and it looks like everyone’s getting involved. It seems the industry is finally back to normal, and in true fashion, some of our favourite faces are putting their heads together to create some of the biggest mashups we’ve seen yet.

Here are some upcoming collaborations we’re excited about:

Gucci x Adidas

Always one for collaboration, Adidas has partnered with Gucci to produce a collection that gives 80s luxury athleisure vibes. Launched at Milan Fashion Week, the collection features classically tailored pieces with the iconic Adidas three-stripe logo. True to Gucci form, it is quirkiness personified with a sporty spin.

The collection is already out and features more than just clothes – the Gazelle trainer is reworked with the Gucci motif, leather gloves printed with the Adidas three-stripe and scarves bearing both brand logos.

Olivier Rousteing x Jean Paul Gaultier

After retiring in 2020, the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier has opened his doors to other designers, inviting them to create a collection for each couture season. Filling his shoes for the next season is Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, who made a name for him when he became creative director of the French fashion house at just 24.

Bringing the brand to the 21st century with his social media prowess and redefining the idea of the Balmain woman with his group of famous friends of all shades and sizes, Olivier has cemented his status as a designer who will go far and create impact beyond his world. Merging his modern-day perspective with the always unconventional Jean Paul Gaultier brand should give us something to look forward to this July at couture week.

Supreme x Burberry

Another luxury streetwear collab, Supreme and Burberry have partnered on a capsule collection pulling from the best of both brands. Confirmed by A$AP Nast last week, the Supreme logo stitched onto Burberry plaid has been seen all over Instagram, but instead of the typical trench or puffer, the collection features a silk pyjama set, checked trucker jackets, bucket hats, and skateboards.

The brand didn’t show as usual at fashion week but will be presenting the collection sometime this week, with the collaboration’s launch on March 10th at 11 AM.

You can shop the collection on the Supreme or Burberry website.

Thebe Magugu

The 2019 LVMH Prize winner, designer Thebe Magugu has been chosen as the first “amigo” for AZ Factory, a new luxury brand created to address a wider group of people beyond what fashion is used to.

Created by the late Alber Elbaz, who sat at the head of Lanvin, the brand welcomes “amigos”, designers who are known for their bold reinterpretation of the fashion industry, to create collections. First up is Thebe, a South African designer exploring the history of his hometown and people, merging it with contemporary stories of his peers.

DAP x GAP

The king of logomania, it’s taken a long time for Dapper Dan to get his dues, and his collab with Gap is another thing checked off the list. Fresh off their partnership with YEEZY, Gap is throwing it back to the industry’s forerunners, placing Dapper Dan as the face of its newest campaign, which celebrates diversity and people who have and are creating their own definition of American style.

The campaign ‘American Dream’ shows models of all ages, races, and sizes in the Gap pieces, with Dapper Dan in his trademark ascot and an exclusive hoodie which switches the Gap logo for the ‘DAP’ – enough said.
