Black LGBTQIA+ Therapy Fund [@Ro_Reveur] raise over £30,000 to donate free therapy sessions to those within the community

During this tough period, many have come forward to help their communities in various ways. The pandemic has been a difficult time for many, as individuals isolate with family members or individuals that may not see eye to eye with. Some have experienced isolation, homelessness alongside being unable to exist in their true identities around family. During this pandemic, the death of George Floyd has resulted in largest civil rights movement across the world; the #blacklivesmatter protest. Making this period a tough time in general for black people, with the constant reminder of how we face discrimination daily.

Fund created by Rose Frimpong

Rose created a fundraiser to initially raise £1,000 to donate therapy sessions for 2 Black LGBTQIA+ persons aged 18+. The fundraiser was received well by the public, which led the target being surpassed; currently at over £30,000. Rose is currently working with mental health professionals to identify the best way that care can be given. The aim is to select recipients who will receive free therapy using the fund via a select number of LGBTQIA+ charities.

Prior to exceeding the new goal, with the fund at currently over £30,000 Rose expressed her gratitude 3 days ago on Instagram saying:

Wow… Yesterday we set out to raise £1000 to donate to 2 Black LGBTQIA+ people to attend Therapy. At present, we are at £5,755!! So we have now increased the amount to £10,000 and will also be increasing the number of people who will have access to the fund to 10, and they will receive therapy for a year. This is simply down to all your generosity, we are so grateful.  Please click the link in my bio to donate. If you would like to donate in a different way please send me a DM or email us at blacklgbtfund@gmail.com.”
