Slowing down fast fashion: How to re-wear and re-style your workwear

This womxn’s history month we are acknowledging the strength and achievements of women all over the world. With more and more women becoming entrepreneurs, business owners and overall bosses, the demand for fashionable women’s workwear is rising. Women are no longer afraid to wear suit pants and blazers, styling the traditionally male look with a feminine touch. The struggle to switch up the looks is real. Being conscious to reduce excessive buying created by growing fast fashion companies, I have created a few easy tips to switch up your workwear and stay bossed up with all the pieces already in your wardrobe.

The versatile blazer

We all know a blazer is a key essential in every wardrobe if you have a plain black blazer or a blazer in neutral colours, don’t be afraid to re-wear it. A few simple tricks to change up a plain blazer could be rolling up the sleeves to create a more relaxed look. Leave the blazer hanging open to highlight your top or button it up for a more professional look.

Stick a belt on it

From thick to thin and corset belts. One simple accessory can really go a long way. Adding a corset belt to an oversized blazer shows off the female silhouette while keeping it professional for the workplace.  To add a feminine touch to high waisted suit pants add a thick belt with a detail in the middle to draw attention to your waist. Lastly adding a thin belt can be a subtle addition to a chilled but boss outfit, this can include a wrap-around belt with a little bow for added flirty detail.

Layering up

Not only is this a practical tip for the cold morning commute but it’s a creative way to make the same shirt look different. I’ve found something as simple as layering a grey turtle neck under a white shirt can really level up a look. To create a more casual workwear look add a crew neck t-shirt over a collared shirt. To be even bolder, have a cool message you feel represents you and is appropriate and inoffensive.

One bold colour is all it takes

If wearing the same grey blazer is not your thing but you’re both conscious of the environment and can’t afford to buy a suit in every colour of the rainbow, try a splash of colour, One bold colour is enough to stand out and distract away from the suit you wore two days in a row. This can be as simple as wearing coloured trainers or heels, a colourful t-shirt or even a pair of earrings.

Play with Jewellery

Jewellery is an easy way to make anything simple look restyled and refined. Layering a mixture of simple and detailed necklaces can be a great way to take a shirt from boring to stylish. I am a big fan of gold hoops but for a change and more professional look playing around with small earrings with minimalistic detail is a great way to look put together and refined even on a rough day.
