Five For Friday ft [@elheist], [@iamodeal], [@ninacobham] + more

Friday’s are packed full of releases, these are 5 you should pay particular attention to today.

Five for Friday is back as usual. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is also the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have just dropped.

Elheist – Wholesome Goody

Elheist has just dropped her debut project Wholesome Goody and it is a breath of fresh air. The South East London emcee, singer, and producer didn’t buckle to the pressure of making music according to a trend and instead stuck to what makes her unique and it pays off. The project explores the concept of a “Goody Two Shoes” but does so in a way that celebrates the various layers to being an individual that is free. Production wise there is a mix in display with quite a few experimental numbers in alongside some more traditional sounds, but this is all tied together by silky smooth vocals and great writing.

Odeal – More Life

Odeal is a name you will be getting to know very well and ‘More Life’ is a great way to be introduced to the young Alté star. The track is an uplifting number all about celebrating Black Excellence and amplifying Black voices. Despite the mature content, this doesn’t mean the track isn’t fun, it’s the contrary in fact. The track is one that can be played anywhere from an introspective train journey through to the clubs with its vibrant production and ensnaring melodies. Keep an eye out for more from Odeal coming soon (including something special with GUAP).

Kalpee – One More Night (Gimme De Ting)

Kalpee is the Trinbagonian talent providing Calypso infused R&B that has racked him up over 25 million streams just on Spotify. What’s equally impressive is that he also achieved a degree in Marine Biology in 2016 before he fully threw himself into following his musical passion. He made the right choice in following his passions with ‘One More Night (Gimme De Ting)’ being a perfect feel good record to take you through the weekend whether you’re having a chilled one or out somewhere shaking a leg.

Nina Cobham ft Bipolar Sunshine – Sola (Remix)

Nina Cobham is yet another hidden gem coming from Manchester. Having dropped ‘Sola’ at the beginning of the year getting support from Jamz Supernova, BBC Introducing and more, as well as over 3 million streams on Spotify alone Nina is onto something. A few months later the bilingual talent gives us the remix to the track featuring fellow Manchester talent Bipolar Sunshine. The pair’s vocals perfectly complement each other and mesh well with the bedroom R&B production to create a track you can’t help but love.

Internet Money ft. Don Toliver, Gunna & Nav – Lemonade

Internet Money Records drop ‘Lemonade’ a taster of what’s to come from their upcoming album. Internet Money are a label as well as producer collective that have worked on records for the likes of Drake, as well as produced Rich The Kid‘s ‘Plug Walk’ and Juice WRLD‘s ‘Lucid Dreams’. The powerhouse has brought together three giants of the scene in Gunna, Don Toliver and Nav for the guitar led ‘Lemonade’. That live instrumentation is a trademark of Internet Money and definitely takes ‘Lemonade’ up a level. It’s laid back feel is perfectly complemented by the trio and is definitely one you’ll vibe to.

I’d also like to add some honourable mentions for this week as there really have been some standout tracks that dropped around this Friday. Lemfreck dropped the dope visuals to his latest track ‘U Gd? (GOD/GOOD)’ which you can also stream here. Rising talent, who is set to work as co-composer of the soundtrack of a Netflix project, Lewi Swiper released his debut single ‘Why?’. South London’s Jibs also dropped ‘Venting’ his first single since his debut EP earlier this year.
