Friday’s are packed full of releases, these are 5 you should pay particular attention to today.
Five for Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is also the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have just dropped.
Che Lingo ft. Kojey Radical – Dark Days
I don’t even know where to start with this one there’s so much to praise about ‘Dark Days’. An easy place to start is in the great selection and strength of the feature from Kojey Radical who delivers as always expected to. Che equally has one of his strongest performances to date, which is saying something considering his recent releases. The track deals with Black love, abandonment, and literal ‘Dark Days’ all of which done through elite lyricism and engaging delivery across flow and tone. Equally praiseworthy are the visuals both in the concept and execution from the videography and styling through to the casting of Mike and Priscilla from Love Island. This track is my recommendation for this Friday.
Novine – Perfection
Novine was born and raised in Germany but is of mixed German and Jamaican heritage and is an exciting R&B talent on the rise. ‘Perfection’ showcases Novine‘s honey like vocals over production with hints of Funk in it but that provides the ideal base for her to strut her vocal ability over. Yet we get more than a showcase of a great singer, there is a section towards the middle of the track where we get a switch up to an almost spoken word style performance. Though brief that small variation in delivery and tonality creates a special moment that emphasises the tracks focus on positive affirmations, self-confidence and self-love.
R.A.E – The Coolest
R.A.E is back with another one! Following up the surprise R&B bop ‘Summer Love’ we are getting ‘The Coolest’ which takes us much closer to the R.A.E people have come to expect. We get the 90s nostalgia inducing production and charismatic Rap performance that you can’t help but love. It helps that there’s an easily memorable and repeatable hook that gets stuck in your head after the first few times you hear it, but this is definitely one for this Friday. The visuals drop today at 6 and from the snippets it is going to be a movie and one that you won’t want to miss.
lordkezft. Priddy Ugly & J.Tek – Sunday
I could have chosen any of lordkez‘s new tracks as she just released her Charcotta EP but it was ‘Sunday’ that I was feeling the most when picking my five tracks for today. The track has the young South African starlet really channelling her inner Erykah Badu, no surprise as that is one of her big influences after all. With that, we get a performance that treads a fine line between R&B and Rap but equally feels like something of its own. Whilst her sultry vocals provide the bulk of the track she also enlists the help of Maryland rapper J.Tek and Angolan born, South African raised Priddy Ugly who compliment her performance nicely.
Jim Legxacy – PowerTrip!
‘PowerTrip!’ is the follow up to ‘4LeafClover’ 21 year old South East London resident Jim Legxacy and again proves why he is a talent to keep your eyes on. Despite his age he already has a body of work under his belt that caught the attention of The Fader, New Wave Magazine and more. He looks set to continue garnering that level of attention based on his latest offering, with ‘PowerTrip!’ being a Rap anthem that feels like one for live shows. On the track, Jim shows his rapping skills with that taking centre stage largely through aggressive delivery but he also showcases his ability to hold a melody across the hook which provides good contrast.
