1) NSG ft. Geko – ‘Yo Darlin’
I have legit played this tune everyday since this came out in the summer ! NSG did a madness with this and was able to bring something different to the table being a group of males bringing an afrobeat sound to everyones ears ! The magic behind the beat came from the wonderful JAE5 (These guys are legendary) & Geko jumped on the track and made it even better. I’ll be definitely bringing ‘Yo Darlin” into 2018 with me!
2) Mez – ‘Normal Shoe’
‘Come to rave looking who’ ? When this plays in my headphones I just want to do the biggest two step skank. I’m 1000% feeling this experimental Mez, trying new things, new beats & durags ! Releasing two big singles this year ‘Normal Shoe‘ & ‘Magnum‘, performing at events which are super major & attending radio sets daily, Mez has made his mark and is very much ready to face 2018. He has confirmed that and EP is coming out in January however a date hasn’t been set just yet. I am very excited to hear this new EP as I believe he has had fun making it !
3) J Hus – ‘Who You Are’
Shortlisted for the 2017 Mercury Prize, MOBO Awards, KA Awards, Sold Out Shows, I could go on ! This has been an excellent year for J Hus, no doubt. Taken from one of the best albums released this year, ‘Common Sense‘, Hus has one particular tune that I feel from the soul. ‘Who You Are’. ‘Find out who you are by the company you keep’ is the opening line of the track & is something that people should definitely live by. He is also very active on the socials and drops mini videos here and there showing that he is still in the studio making bangers ready to drop.
4) Wretch 32 FT. J Warner – ‘Happy’
Another amazing album was released this year coming from one of UK’s finest, Wretch 32. This was a hard decision for me to make between ‘Happy’ & ‘His & Hers Perspective’, but ‘Happy’ did me justice ! Taken off of the album FR32 which included 12 quality tracks & included over 8 features Wretch tapped into everyone feels and made sure that everyone could enjoy the album with different beats, sounds and flows. Wretch turned 32 and there was no way he couldn’t have not dropped an album, he defo celebrated in the right way !
5) Maxsta – ‘Skrrr’
Ahhh, my favourite love songs of all time! Maxsta legit pulled my tiny heart strings with ‘Skrrr‘. The first time hearing the track it wasn’t on any digital media platforms so it was super exclusive so it was almost like a taster for me. I had to wait ages for the tune to get released and once it did I made sure it was on repeat for the whole day ! I have a feeling that Max will be making more music next year and I’m very excited to see what is in store for him !
