Off-White has released an exclusive capsule collection with luxury Russian department store TSUM. With the collection only available from TSUM, Virgil Abloh Creative director of Off -White is looking to tap into the Russian market and give them a taste of his take on 90’s fashion with a current twist.
Asked his impressions of Russian style and his inspiration behind the collection, Abloh said, “This community passionately embraces an eclectic style, that also happens to be very practical. There’s a lot of mixing and matching, the building of smart casual looks from luxury and vintage. Through this capsule, I wanted to bring this concept to life. To me, this way of dressing is so heavily linked to ‘the spirit of the Nineties’ — an era that gave us the building blocks of this current trend.”
The collection embodies the spirit of the ’90s through both menswear and womenswear as well as giving us a taste of the theme with a retro-style editorial. The collection features items typical to the ’90s as well as much loved wardrobe staples in the 21st century showing us how much the 90’s added to the fashion industry particularly for streetwear. The collection includes graphic T-shirts, oversized flannel shirts, hoodies, leather jackets, chunky trainers, tracksuit trousers and plunge neck dresses. The clothing takes on a grunge casual style combining outwear and workwear to create Off White’s innovative and high-end take on streetwear.
Denim plays a large role in adding to the 90’s feel of the collection, using classic bleach washed denim for womenswear and darker grey denim for menswear. Bringing out the popular grunge side of 90’s fashion Off White uses metallic detailing and attached chains and the colour scheme also keeps in touch with the grunge theme using black, navy blue and petrol green.
