PREMIERE: Zoey Lily ft. INFAMOUSIZAK – Say Less [@mezoeylily] [@infamousizak]

Zoey Lily switches things up on new single ‘Say Less’.

‘Say Less’ is the second single taken from Zoey Lily‘s upcoming EP Dancing On My Own. Whilst typically a Pop crooner leaning towards a more nonchalant Pop sound on this new single we get a taster of what Zoey can do when she steps outside of what would be seen as her comfort zone. On this latest number production wise we get the tempo raised significantly from previous release ‘Love’ and we also get a guest appearance from South London’s very own INFAMOUSIZAK.

For those unfamiliar with Zoey Lily, she is a burgeoning talent that has quietly been building a name in the industry. At a snapshot, Zoey has already: sold out her own headline show, headlined at the O2 Islington, been championed by media ranging from BBC London to Buzzfeed, and amassed over 2.3 million streams. With the childhood she had, the fact that she was drawn to music is no surprise as her father took her on tours whilst he was a live music agent. That experience and her natural affinity towards the arts, in general, has set her up to have the goal of establishing herself as a highly independent and original songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer.

But back to ‘Say Less’. The track feels like a true collaboration with INFAMOUSIZAK contributing way more than the bare minimum and almost expected single verse or hook. The song opens with a back and forth between Zoey and IZAK before going into the Zoey led hook with IZAK providing backing vocals throughout that before we get into a more traditional structure. Even saying that during IZAK‘s verse Zoey provides supporting vocals at points and this element of the two unselfishly contributing throughout gives the track a real synergy. It feels like a track that really suits both artists despite it being a colliding of two worlds.

The production is a blend of Afro-influences, Rap, and just a slight hint of Pop. Whilst a departure from Zoey‘s typical sound it is actually a teaser of what to expect on the upcoming Dancing On My Own EP which is set to be more genre bending than her 2020 offerings. Speaking on the record Zoey explains:

‘Say Less’ is very different from anything I’ve done before. I loved being able to venture into a more fast paced singing style and to express an alternative artistic angle to myself, it’s something that I realised I’d like to do more in the future.
I became aware of Infamousizak through a shoot we both did for AWAL’s ‘A World Artists Love’ campaign and after that I contacted him on Instagram. At that time I was given the opportunity to do a session at the Spotify Secret Genuis Studios in London to which I invited Infamous and that’s when we wrote ‘Say Less’.”
