Sarah Andelman reunites with Vault by Vans for an exclusive International Women’s Day collaboration

By Wanique Block

In honour of International Women’s Day, Vault by Vans has reunited with fashion curator and retail mastermind Sarah Andelman to present a limited capsule collection.

Iconic cultural Curator Sarah Andelman has played a key role in elevating and merging various entities of fashion, art, contemporary design, streetwear and sneaker culture through the conceptualization and collaboration of capsule collections.

Together with her mother, Colette Roussaux, Sarah created one of the world’s most famous concept stores called Colette. Since its inception, Colette was a cultural space and destination embedded in the notion of collaboration and community. For twenty years, Colette changed the idea of collaboration and re-shaped contemporary fashion as we now know it today until its demise.

No stranger to the art of collaboration, Sarah Andelman has returned and reunited with Vault by Vans for another ground-breaking partnership. In celebration of International Women’s Day, this collaboration highlights the voices and the creativity of inspiring women around the world.

This collection consists of footwear, apparel and accessories items that feature exclusive designs and prints by Sindiso Khumalo, Soko, Julia Chiang and Fumiko Imano that uniquely capture and expand on the stories and narratives of each artist.

“For this Vault by Vans collection, I immediately thought of these four creative women I met in different cities, [in] different years, all under different contexts, but they all share a passion for what they do, and they’re all amazing in dealing with their work and personal life. I hope their collection reflects their philosophies and will be appreciated by women of all ages.”

Sindiso Khumalo is a South African Sustainable Textile Designer and Social Activist. Sindiso uses fashion and design to evoke conversations around women empowerment, gender-based violence and female sheroes. As a joint LVMH Prize winner for Young Fashion Designers and recipient of the Green Carpet Emerging Designer Award, Sindiso uses her craft as a designer to push forward conversations about women’s empowerment and sustainability, focusing on telling stories that are uniquely African.

French musician and actress Soko is known for her remarkable access to emotion and catharsis. Her music expands on and intricately delves into the facades and social conditioning that often represses emotions. Since launching her career in 2012, Soko has released three albums and been nominated twice for the Cesar Award and the Lumieres Award for her work in film.

Julia Chiang is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist. Julia’s work reveals and celebrates imperfection, working with various mediums such as paints, ceramics, detailed patterns and textures. Julia has been exhibited all over the world. From the Modern Institute in Glasgow to the Nanzuka in Tokyo.

Fumiko Imano is a Tokyo-based photographer and artist. As a Fine Art, Photography and Fashion Styling graduate, Fumiko’s work combines self-portraiture and fashion photography and has been published in various magazines, including Dunch, Dune, Big, Cream, Lula, Dong and Code. Fumiko has assisted and collaborated with Mark Lebon, Marjan Pejoski and Charles Anastase. She has also collaborated with Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson. Fumiko Imano’s work encapsulates an innocent, nostalgic charm reminiscent of pictures taken on a family trip. Her work also eloquently communicates and captures a sense of playfulness.

Handpicked by the collaboration queen herself, this collection reflects Sarah’s passion for storytelling and emphasises the women’s empowerment movement by cultivating inspiring and necessary conversations.
