[@tempa] Birmingham’s Rising Star

This guy is demanding some Respek!… Meet Tempa one of brum’s finest.

We’ve seen the likes of Lady Leshurr taking the throne on her Queens speech, the soulful and powerful voice that comes from Jacob banks hail out of Birmingham. But it seems there is a lot more yet to see from the likes of Jaykae, Lotto Boyz, Daps on the map, Preditah and even the one and only jorja smith.

GUAP spoke with someone else who is entering the scene and he fills us in on why he’s the next big thing that’s coming up, and that’s TEMPA.

Shannie: Hey, so let’s get right into it. For those that don’t know, tell us who is TEMPA?

Tempa: This was from when I was younger I use to get mad a lot and I couldn’t control my temper. I’ve always been doing my thing in Birmingham so people from there would probably know me. I’m new to the music industry though so right now I’m just getting up there and just released my new single Gimmie Respect.

Shannie: So you’ve obviously mentioned being from Birmingham, and that’s hometown for us both so what does that mean to you?

Tempa: Being from Birmingham just gives me a sick feeling. We’re finally getting recognised for the talent that we’ve got, you know what I mean just getting noticed is good for everyone.

Shannie: Do you ever feel pressured to do extra well because your not from London?

Tempa: Nah I don’t really feel pressured. If you’ve got the talent your already proving to everyone you can do it. We just do it.

Shannie: How’s everything been so far for you, are you enjoying the journey?

Tempa: The Journeys been sick. I’ve learnt a lot about me as an artist and other stuff. Just by learning about my stage presence, mannerism it’s all been good. Coming from the road I’m not use to that so this is all new but still so inspiring.

Shannie: You describe yourself as ‘coming from the road’ how does that influence you as an artist?

Tempa: A lot. All I know Is the hood, poverty and it has a deep impact on everything I do and a lot of what I write is about where I’m coming from.

Shannie: How important is it for you to get your message across from the road as an artist?

Tempa: It’s really important for me to get a message across that really comes from me. I want to inspire people from the road. I don’t necessarily make music for people who are not from the road I do it for the people that are.

Shannie: Who really inspires you?

Tempa: The streets inspire me, and where I come from there’s not really anyone specific because there’s loads of people and a lot of things that inspire me. Everyday people, different MC’s. Just everything.

Shannie: What sort of challenges are you facing right now, if any?

Tempa: Life itself is a challenge, you know what I’m saying. Not just music and stuff but everything. As a strong person you’ve just gotta get through it.

Shannie: Tell us a little bit about your goals or anything you really aspire to, anything?

Tempa: There’s loads of people I would love to collaborate with like Kano, skepta and Adele. I think Adele is just sick her voice is touching man – too serious. I proper like the brand Cooji (Biggie smalls sweater range) I wore it in my video for Gimmie Respect and I liked it.

Shannie: Is there anything you want to happen right now- in terms of goals or achievements?

Tempa: Yeah tbh I would like to get nominated for something that’s on my list and also I have to perform at a festival, either Glastonbury or Wireless. And listen yeah it has to be a main stage ting can’t be in no side man tent **laughs**. (No shade intended)

Shannie: So tell us more about Brum, what’s popping in Birmingham who should we be looking out for?

Tempa: Watch out for everyone and everything coming from Brum. There’s just too many names to mention right now but trust me yeah just look out for the people coming from Birmingham right now.

Shannie: Are there any projects your working on, so we can get a heads up?

Tempa: Yeah, I’ll be dropping a project by the end of the year. Not doing any big reveals yet though. I’ve also just got loads of performances throughout the year so you’ll be seeing me about.

Shannie: Lastly just for the fans or anyone out there looking for some advice or direction is there anything you wanna say to just help them out a bit?

Tempa: Just do it! If there’s anything you wanna do just go for it, don’t be having those second thoughts just believe it and just do it.

Shannie: Thank you for that and best of luck and well done with all you’ve achieved so far.

For those of you that didn’t know who Tempa was, I’m sure you do now.
