[@timandbarry] bring [@DDoubleE7] on to new live freestyle series

Grime veteran D Double E blesses Tim & Barry TV with a live freestyle.

When D Double E touches the mic, by now we know what to expect. Yet even now years deep into his career, his delivery and classic ad libs bring forth the most emotive of responses from even longstanding grime scholars.

ITS ME AGAIN! ITS ME AGAIN!

Here on this freestyle D Double E mixes a blend of story telling with some of his older material. This blend is very interesting stylistically but it is clear where the switch is due to a D Double requested ‘jackum’. That is a wheel up for those not familiar with the term. A wheel up is the process of, traditionally a DJ, pulling the instrumental back to the start – usually due to a big crowd reaction, extra impactful lyrics, or excellent delivery of a line. When it comes to getting a wheel up D Double E is a master, just check out this clip here. In this Tim & Barry freestyle D Double makes use of all of the tools at his disposable to get you bopping your head along and breaking out a little skank. The story element instantly draws you into the freestyle with tales of a day that could be called eventful at the least for D Double and his friend. Bringing us along for part of the journey the story comes to a bit of an abrupt end to a repeated hook that is more than a little catchy.

It was a solid freestyle and the live aspect is an interesting one just because you can see little mistakes if you pay attention closely. But this only adds to the authenticity of the video and gives it the feel of a radio set on the go. Visuals are kept understandably understated, to keep focus on the freestyle itself which is the real star of the show.
