The Five Miles x Welcome To Tottenham project marks a new glance at the area of Tottenham and North London as a whole. Located within the London borough of Haringey, Tottenham has been perceived as a notorious area & has been tainted due to it’s controversial past. The investment into the area due to the new Tottenham Hotspurs stadium has residents concerned that gentrification will dilute the cultural identity of Tottenham.

Kelliesha White (GhettoHippi) Guap’s Arts & Culture Editor has teamed up with FIVE MILES to create “Welcome To Tottenham” a project aimed to create Artwork & Photography based on the Tottenham area that will be featured in the new FIVE MILES night club in South Tottenham. The aim is to gather an external look at Tottenham through a creative lens. Creating Art that captures Tottenham in its purest form, and acknowledging that there is character and charisma in the People & streets of North London. Contestants will create a piece of Artwork/Photography which will be shortlisted and the winners will be chosen by a panel of judges in September. The winners work will become a part of the new Five Miles Nightclub in South Tottenham.

Artists and Photographers will have a chance to have their work displayed in one of the most exciting venues to open up in London. With the likes of Nike & AfroPunk hosting events at this venue, it will soon be one of the most well-known spaces in London.

The pieces will also represent an important period for Tottenham, as Tottenham will look very different with the arrival of the New stadium next year. Although this project is based on the Area of Tottenham, it’s an inclusive project that wants to see people from all over London share their creative perspective on this famous area of North London. It’s important that we create spaces for creative’s works to be exhibited and this project will bring people together from all over London to create a visual message.

The project will end with an exhibition at the Five Miles Venue in Tottenham with live music and a screening. Proceeds from the event will go to a chosen charity in Tottenham.
